Hardscape design and installation for patios, walkways, and steps
Hardscape is the built ground of the yard. It is the patio you eat on, the paths you walk, and the steps up to the front door. We design it to fit the house and the rest of the landscape, then build it on a properly prepared base.

When to start with hardscape
Start here if the main problem is the ground itself. A patio that is too small, a cracked walkway, a front entry that feels like an afterthought, or a side yard nobody uses.
Hardscape is also the first layer of most larger projects. If a pool, outdoor kitchen, or patio cover is part of the plan, the paving around it should be designed with it. Our landscape design and build service covers the whole yard.
What shapes a good hardscape plan
-
Material
Poured concrete, stamped concrete, pavers, and natural stone each look and wear differently. We help you choose for the style of the house, the budget, and how the space is used.
-
Size and layout
A patio needs room for the furniture you will actually put on it, plus space to walk around. We size paving from how you plan to use it.
-
Slope and drainage
Every paved surface needs somewhere for water to go. The right slope keeps water away from the house and off the patio.
-
Edges and transitions
Where paving meets lawn, planting, or the house is where hardscape looks finished or unfinished. We plan those edges as part of the design.
-
Heat and comfort
Surface color and texture change how a patio feels in July. Lighter finishes and shade make paved areas more comfortable in summer.
-
Entries and steps
Front walks and steps are the first thing visitors use. Comfortable step heights and a clear path to the door matter as much as appearance.

How the project comes together
Design and construction under one contract, so nothing gets lost between trades.
-
Consultation
We look at the area, talk through how you want to use it, and discuss materials and budget. The first consultation is complimentary.
-
Layout and materials
We plan the size, shape, and finish of the paving and how it meets the house, lawn, and planting.
-
Grading and base
The area is excavated and graded so water drains away, and the base is prepared before any paving goes down.
-
Paving and finish
Our crew pours or sets the paving, finishes the surface and edges, and cleans up the site.
Questions about hardscape design and installation
Something else on your mind? Call (916) 349-8755.
Should I choose concrete, pavers, or stone?
It depends on the look you want, the budget, and how the area is used. Concrete gives a clean, continuous surface, pavers come in many shapes and colors, and natural stone has the most variation. We walk through the options that fit your project during the consultation.
Can you replace an old patio?
Yes. We remove the existing paving, correct the grade where needed, and build the new patio on a properly prepared base.
Do you build driveways?
Yes. Driveways and parking areas are part of our hardscape work, along with front walks and entry steps.
Can turf or lawn go between pavers?
Yes. Concrete pads or steppers with turf or grass in the joints are a common request, and several projects in our gallery use them.
