Landscape lighting that makes the yard usable after dark
Lighting turns the yard into a place you can use at night and enjoy from inside. We design and install path, step, and accent lighting as part of the landscape, so fixtures go where they are needed and the light looks natural.

When to plan lighting
Lighting is easiest to plan with a new landscape, when wiring can run before paving and planting go in. It can also be added to an existing yard.
If you spend summer evenings outside, around a pool or in an outdoor living space, lighting is what makes those hours usable.
What we think about when lighting a yard
-
Safety first
Steps, grade changes, and paths need enough light to walk them without thinking about it.
-
Accent, not glare
Light on trees, walls, and water should show the feature, not shine in anyone’s eyes.
-
Views from inside
A lit yard extends the view from the house at night, so we place light where it reads through the windows.
-
Gathering areas
Dining tables, outdoor kitchens, and fire pits need softer, usable light.
-
Water
Pools and water features change at night with the right lighting.
-
Control
Lighting can be grouped into zones and set on timers so it comes on when you need it.

Questions about landscape lighting
Something else on your mind? Call (916) 349-8755.
Can lighting be added to an existing yard?
Yes. It is simplest when planned with new work, because wiring can run before paving and planting, but lighting can be added to an existing landscape.
What should be lit first?
Steps, paths, and grade changes come first for safety. Then the features you want to see at night, like trees, walls, water, and gathering areas.
Will lighting make the yard too bright?
It should not. Good landscape lighting uses lower, aimed light on specific features instead of floodlights, so the yard reads clearly without glare.
