Outdoor kitchens designed around how you cook and host

A good outdoor kitchen puts the grill, counter space, and storage where you need them, close to the table and the house. We design and build custom outdoor kitchens in stacked stone and stucco, along with the patio, cover, and seating around them.

Planning an outdoor kitchen

An outdoor kitchen makes the most sense where you already cook and eat outside, or where you want to. It works best as part of an outdoor room with a patio, shade, and seating, so the cook is part of the gathering.

If the kitchen is going under a new cover or onto a new patio, plan them together. See outdoor living spaces.

What we plan in an outdoor kitchen

  • Layout

A straight run, an L shape, or an island. The right shape depends on the space and on where people gather while you cook.

  • Placement

Close enough to the house to carry food, far enough that smoke does not drift inside, and near the dining table.

  • Counter space

Room to prep beside the grill and a landing spot for plates matter more than extra appliances.

  • Finish

Stacked stone, stucco, and stone or concrete countertops can match the house or the rest of the hardscape.

  • Utilities

Gas, power, and water need to reach the kitchen. Where they run is decided during design, before paving goes in.

  • Shade and weather

A patio cover over the kitchen keeps the cook comfortable in summer and protects the equipment.

Questions about outdoor kitchens

Stone or stucco for an outdoor kitchen?

Both hold up outside. Stacked stone has texture and pairs well with stone walls and planters. Stucco is smoother and can match the house. Both finishes appear in our project photos, and we talk through which suits your house during the consultation.

Can an outdoor kitchen be added to an existing patio?

Sometimes. It depends on the existing slab, the layout, and where utilities need to reach. We look at those conditions during the consultation.

Should the kitchen be covered?

Covering the kitchen makes it more comfortable to use in summer and protects the equipment. A patio cover can be planned with the kitchen.
